3404 Talon Court makes Best Green Houses list

GreenSource, the Magazine of Sustainable Design recently added the residence at 3404 Talon Court in Wilmington to its ongoing list of Best Green Houses. The online publication has posted a story about the gut rehab  along with a slide show featuring 16 photographs of the interior and exterior. The "greenovation" of the Talon Court home was performed to meet LEED Platinum standards.

The project was spearheaded by local architect Jay DeChesere, who owns the home with his wife Heather.  Numerous CFGBA members were involved in the project from concept through completion.

CFGBA seeks to expand  board

The CFGBA board of directors recently voted to increase their ranks by adding 3 to 5 new positions.  By increasing its size, the board aims to add both manpower and specific skill sets.  Fundraising, legal, financial, renewable energy, water conservation, marketing and landscape expertise are among the attributes being sought to complement the composition of the existing board.

The current board consists of eight directors with a broad range of backgrounds, including architecture, contracting, remodeling, engineering,  code enforcement, administration, planning and real estate. Four board members have earned LEED AP certification.

The board also has a student liaison, which is a non-voting position, presently held by a UNCW graduate student. The board would like to add a second non-voting position for a student representative from Cape Fear Community College.

The board meets monthly on the fourth Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. Meetings generally last 1.5 to 2 hours.  Directors also are strongly encouraged to serve on committees,   and to assist with the monthly general meetings held on the second Wednesday of each month.   CFGBA membership is a requirement for board eligibility.

If you are interested in serving on the CFGBA board, please email your resume to the chairman of the nominating committee, Grady Hobbs, at grady.h@cfgba.org.
