| What is the EDZD?
Exceptional Design Zoning District
New Hanover County Planning
Staff recently developed an Exceptional Design Zoning District (EDZD).
Largely based on the LEED for Neighborhood Development program, the
EDZD standards were scaled to fit the unique conditions of the County
with the goal of encouraging sustainable development while providing
density incentives to entice the use of the voluntary district.
Through the conservation of water bodies, wetlands, floodplains and
open spaces and the use of LID techniques, it is intended that the
district will prevent the degradation of water quality and provide
design flexibility to achieve public and private spaces that advance a
sense of community in a well-integrated service area that diminishes
the need for vehicular traffic.
Learn more about the EDZD, as
well as the County's Low Impact Development process through a
presentation by Shawn Ralston, Senior Environmental Planner with the
New Hanover County Planning Department on March 10 at CFGBA's monthly meeting:
Front & Dock St.
3rd floor, Roudabush Building
Doors open at 6:30 for exhibits and networking
Presentation begins at 7:00 P.M.
Cape Fear Economic Development Council
Attention: The Balcony, our gracious Community Partner, will provide a cash bar for wine and beer at CFGBA monthly meetings, starting with the March 10 event. The bar will be open during the networking and exhibition period. Come early and enjoy!
