Book sale to benefit Gulf Coast restoration

Saturday, July 24 - 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Lumina Station, 1900 Eastwood Rd.
Stone Garden, 6955 Market St.
Sapona Green Building Center, 716 S. 17th St.

Are you heartsick about the environmental disaster caused by the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico? Do you wish you could do something to help? CFGBA has come up with a way for Wilmington folks to make a difference. We plan to host a one-day book sale fundraiser and will donate half of the proceeds to the Nature Conservancy's special fund for long term restoration of the Gulf. Green awareness ribbons will be given tothose who prefer to make a donation.

Founded in 1951, the Nature Conservancy works in all 50 states and 30 countries to protect  ecologically important lands and waters for nature and people.  The Nature Conservancy has a local office at 2807 Market Street. More information about the Fund for Gulf Coast Restoration is available at the Nature Conservancy's web site.

CFGBA's  book sale will feature "Carolina Preserves" by the artist William Mangum.  The unique coffee-table book includes more than 100 reproductions of watercolors painted by Mangum of special places throughout North Carolina,  such as the Bellamy Mansion, Old Baldy and Southport Harbor. The book also includes essays by some of the state's most colorful personalities, such as Dean Smith, Kay Yow, Charlie Rose, Michael Jordan and Bob Timberlake.

A generous donor who prefers to remain anonymous gave a large quantity of these beautiful hardcover books to CFGBA to use for fundraising.  The retail price for "Carolina Preserves" on Amazon.com is $99.85, but the books will be sold for $30 each on the day of the sale.

CAROLINA PRESERVES

An artist’s perspective of North Carolina with reflections from some
of the state’s most unique personalities

By WILLIAM MANGUM

William (Bill) Mangum is one of the most popular and respected watercolor artists in North Carolina. From the Outer Banks to the mountains, his North Carolina art showcases the beauty of the state. Starting with a 59-cent tray of watercolors, Bill has produced more than 3,000 art originals — all drawn from his thirty years of travels throughout North Carolina and abroad. Bill has self-published over 300 paintings as limited edition art prints. More than 50,000 of his works have made their way into private and corporate collections!
